Al-Tirmidhī 2230
A ruler from my household
لَا تَذْهَبُ الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى يَمْلِكَ الْعَرَبَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي يُوَاطِئُ اسْمُهُ اسْمِي.The world will not pass away until a man of my household rules the Arabs, his name corresponding to mine.

HOW TO READ THIS WITNESS
What this narration establishes
This version travels through Sufyan al-Thawri, Asim b. Bahdala, Zirr and Ibn Masud. Its survival through another collector does not make it independent of Asim.
Tirmidhi's subsequent mention of reports from other Companions concerns the chapter's subject. It does not establish that each transmitted this exact naming clause. The passage gives no date for a teaching session or first circulation.
Al-Tirmidhī calls the report ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ. That positive traditional evaluation should be acknowledged alongside the modern historical question about the report’s origin.
ʿĀṣim → Sufyān → Asbāṭ → ʿUbayd → al-Tirmidhī
